99 mustang 3.8L v6

Asked by Dec 10, 2016 at 06:12 PM about the 1999 Ford Mustang

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 99 ford mustang I not long purchased , I
have changed plugs, wires, fuel filter,  air filter,
changed the oil, new state, new terminals and a
few others, once it starts it runs like a top but
getting it to start is the problem, it turns over good
and strong but acts as if it isn't getting enough fuel
to start but its getting plenty of gas, but its almost
as if you have to flood it in order for it to start,
when turning over after a few minutes it'll back fire
slightly and acts as if it looses all fuel pressure,
once it starts it smokes white for a short period of
time and then quits and won't do it again until you
go to try to crank it again any help is greatly
appreciated

Backfiring is a sign of a timing issue. But you said white smoke, that might be a head gasket. Perform a cylinder pressure test to see if any are low indicating a gasket issue. Search online on how to perform the test. Plenty of videos out there.
