I have a 2000 dodge dakota magnum v8 has been sitting for a couple years recently started driving it again, took it out for the weekend and when i turned it on this morning the check engine light was on, nit sure what the best course of action is, dont want to spend much to keep i ton the road...should have it checked with sensor? right, just curious what are the common problems for this make and model etc

You need to get the problem properly diagnosed and repaired. If it's just the basic yellow light it could just be a loose gas cap, or the seal deteriorated in the two years it wasn't driven. This also might be a problem with the EVAP system, like a faulty purge valve or a vacuum leak; especially if the CEL comes on, then goes out shortly after driving.. Go to a car parts store and have codes read, probably free, to find out which system is causing this. Or just see a mechanic to diagnose & fix.
