How to replace voltage requlator

How to replace voltage regulator,
new kenwood stereo goes on and off, was told that voltage regulator will cause this due to spikes up and down, and stereo has a surge protector
that could be the problem ?

1965 vehicles did not have high energy charging systems, I would recommend that you put in a separate battery and alternator just for your stereo and whatever else you may have that is not factory. That way the high power demands can be meet by a separate circuit and keep the rest of it as stock as possible, I would also make it isolated so power won't cross feed. HTH
