Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a problem i have been fighting with for about a month , one day i got and turned my altezza (sxe 10 beams 3sge ) and it started to intimittently missing at first while driving . upon inspection i realized that my coil transiter was burnt and my injector wasn't pulsing i inspected the wires and all the wire were fine i replace my coil and new injector same problem i change the ecu same problem on same cylinder so it missing on the same cylinder with two ecu what do you think is my problem

May be low cylinder compression. Should check the compression of that cylinder, and in the rest of the cylinders so you know the condition of the engine.

I check the compression in all cylinder and it fine the injector does not pulse I check the duty cycle and it like 15 - 45% dutty cycle and fluctuate between there and and 0 when you rev it it stay 00 but idles fluctuate between 15 - 45% dutty cycle

I checked my electrical wire bare in mind it starts but dies cause of lack of power

If that is the only cylinder giving you problems, then just have to trace the wiring back, like you say there is no pulse at that injector.

I did but I find it hard to believe its that driver

180

I was wondering if was one any other sensor other than that cause I have heard that injector pulse but not often I don't know it not the wire cuz I traced it back and it not ecu cuz it cant be possible that it would be two ecu at the same problem

180

is there any other way I can by pass or substitute that signal with a lets say a AEM

220,965

No, it has the come from the ECU. Wires go bad a connections, and connectors. Maybe the wire is broken by the injector connector under the insulation. Maybe do a continuity test at each wire at the connector, moving the wire around seeing if it looses the connection?

I also cut the wire and place it on another circuit and the injector pulsed up that circuit no problem

don't you think it a bad signal from one of the input sensor like that cam sensor or something

I don't know, just for one not to work. It would almost have to be something with a reluctor wheel for the crankshaft or cam sensor for that to happen, I would think...

I checked my wire and so far the wires have continuity with 0 ohms no resistance

the altezza has a reluctor wheel with three teeth on each cam shaft with two cam position sensors and to vvti solenoids but the relator wheel is shaped funny with a bawled spot for when the No. 4 cylinder is opening so I'm guessing the the sensor is week but its hard to tell seeing that its not giving me a DTC for that also the only DTC that is being sent is the one for a coil that fire but I guess its not firing for the correct spec of the coil and its of the cylinder that giving me trouble as well where the previous coil was burnt

220,965

Yes, good morning, I mentioned the crankshaft sensor, that builds up an magnetic field, and sends a signal when the reluctor goes on by it.

ill have to check the signal coming from the sensors cuz it seems as if the signals are not synchronizing properly

I don't know if this helps but....P1345 TOYOTA - Variable Valve Timing Sensor Bank 1 Malfunction...Possible causes; Faulty Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Sensor, Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Sensor harness is open or shorted, Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Sensor circuit poor electrical connection, Engine Control Module (ECM)... No Variable Valve Timing (VVT) sensor signal to Engine Control Module (ECM) during cranking at 4 sec. or more. Possible symptoms; Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)... P1345 TOYOTA Description Variable Valve Timing (VVT) sensor (VVT signal) consist of a signal plate and pickup coil. The VVT signal plate has 1 tooth on its outer circumference and is mounted on the intake camshafts. When the camshafts rotate, the protrusion on the signal plate and the air gap on the pickup coil change, causing fluctuations in the magnetic field and generating an electromotive force in the pickup coil. The actual camshaft angle is detected by the VVT sensor and it provides feedback to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to control the intake valve timing in response to during condition.

but I'm not getting any DTC it as if the car is running fine but isn't it has something to do with that but I'm not get any dtc for that particular problem I already cleared that problem but nothing is coming with that one I remembered when we hit either or it fired for a brief second but I don't see any dtc at all

180

update well know I have stopped the car from missing now its stuttering or idling at lower rpm struggle to make power between 2000 - 3000 rpm and flies at high rpm and it stutters under load as well no dtc any suggestions

180

and yes people a bad cam signal can cause a lean misfire and not give a dtc in the 3sge

220,965

Possible causes; Faulty spark plug (s), Faulty ignition coil (s), Clogged or faulty fuel injector (s), Intake air leak, Fuel injectors harness is open or shorted, Fuel Injectors circuit poor electrical connection, Ignition coils harness is open or shorted, Ignition coils circuit poor electrical connection, Insufficient cylinders compression, Incorrect fuel pressure...Cylinder(s) is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks, intake gaskets are common caused of multi-cylinder misfiring. If no leak are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem.

well update the problem with the stutter is seemed to be associated with a APS or Accelerator Paddle Sensor reason why I think so is because everytime time the car stutter at idle there is a clicking noise come from the throttle body area and the stuttering and the clicking happens simultaneously

update the throttle motor on the altezza could be failing might have to get a new one

Big job u had, but keep on checking the ignition system, and try to swap the cable taking power to that cylinder injector and coil..

10

Next time before replacing the ecu try to swap every small and cheep part that may cause that kind of problem u save money

What was the solution for your problem? We have the same with our Altezza ☹️

10

Hi, from what I can see is that u r having power supply problem for this two components, must compare the voltage that there are given when idling and reving, then find the standard numbers from the manufacturer on voltage rates and make a comparison, this is electric problem and have ur battery checked and fuse box it self..

dose anyone no the where abouts a ignitor is located in a Toyota altezza 98 beams 2000

I think I’ve a similar problem... i have a 2002 altezza timing belt broke so had to change engine, bought another engine used all my old parts from old engine for it, now cars up and running but has a hesitation from 1500 to 2000rpm and will go as if it will cut out but once over 2000 it will pull like a train, then also ever now and then the engine management light comes on for p1345 vvt solenoid, and goes off again but once it comes on car loses power and drive different... so took them out cleaned them no change, got 2 more changed them out still the same, bought 2 new ones and still no change car still running weird... idles perfect just while driving... anyone any help please...

hi there have you found the solution of the problem? I have a car with the same problem, missing on cylinder 3. no injection pulse. how did you get the pulse back Cheers Nick

Hi, I figured it out. This engine won’t run on any after market coil packs. the ecu will cut the fuel on the cylinder with the after market coil. I don’t know why, probably different resistance. I bought coil packs from Toyota, it runs fine know.

I can tell you all a little truth here. I watched this ongoing issue online in a variety of places. And no one fucking knows. Excuse my language. But I've seen this conversation a thousand times Email BMW HQ and ask them. They'll tell you exactly what the problem is.

10

I've know of 3 cars with this problem. Had coil packs replaced with Toyota packs. Had throttle body sensor. Mass air flow. And cam sensors done. Problem still there. I bet you BMW knows.. I had emailed them. But that bloody iPhone crashed before I got an answer. An buggered if I can remember what my damn email was. Hahaha. I might do that now

My 1999 is also having problems.it cranks but wont start. Have tried running hotwire from cores to battery, checked fuses, checked for spark, checked fuel pump, still not working. Tried running hotwire to fuel pump, no spark, now checking starter relay,. As when I did code check it came up code 43. Any tips on how to get this sorted . So stressful

Check the coilsbthey might seem fine but I had the same problem with mine checked for continuity, ohms etc on each coul pack and all read fine .but changed a couple that seemed to be fayulty after letting the car idol and pulling we each coul while it was running and listening for rpm change or drop. Then like magic problem gone. Must of been a weak coil signal. Also went one step further and re gapped the plugs. Car runs like a dreamer
