75 f100 dies after 10-15 minutes running

Asked by Oct 10, 2017 at 08:13 AM about the 1975 Ford F-100

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

initially starting it up will run for about 15 minutes then
once under load it loses idle or dies. After about another
20-30 will start back up then make it not even a
mile.Distributer/plugs replaced. Replaced ignition module.
Cleaned carb. Haven’t gone through fuel filter yet but just
seems like it’s not getting fuel. Any ideas? Thanks

This sounds like what my old truck would do, replaced the fuel pump and that cured the problem, but be aware that there are other things that can cause the same thing, fuel tank not venting properly, fuel hoses collapsing, curd floating in the fuel tank plugging the pickup screen and so on. To find out if it is fuel or spark next time it acts up spray some starter fluid down the air intake and see if it starts and runs even briefly, if it does then the fuel system has a problem ,if it doesn't then you have a spark problem.
