Smoke coming from under center panel while driving

Asked by Guru39JSS Jun 27, 2020 at 10:22 AM about the 2005 MINI Cooper S Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

As I was driving, I accidentally hit the dsc button (instead of window down button). I immediately saw the light go on on the display. Turned it off immediately, but noticed smoke coming from under the center panel! Pulled over, turned car off for a few minutes. Restarted and drove ok until I needed to brake. Brakes worked fine, but smoke was back. Then strange things started - window opened on it's own, then roof opened and doors unlocked on their own. Help please!!!

Sounds like an electrical fire. You will need to remove the dash to find what wires melted and why.
