I have a "91 Honda prelude si after starting the rpms go up then go down to idle and then up again. This repeats itself for about 4-5 minutes then idles out normally. What could cause this to happen?

the air control valve !! if the car has fuel injection engine is located attached to the injection manifold and attached by three bolts disconnect the pipes flush the unit out with electrical cleaner including the bronze gauze filter ensure it is rely clean blow out with compressor is best give a few squirtsof WD 40 and re,assemble ensuring all surfaces are clean also check for leaks in all air feeds to the unit and bolts are correctly tightened this worked on my imported 94 2.2 si
