what is a great deal for a ford thunderbird 2002 with 99,716 miles

Asked by GuruDY37LW Apr 14, 2024 at 01:13 AM about the 2002 Ford Thunderbird Deluxe RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I found the exact car I fell in love with years ago and even though it is not
what I am looking for right now I might just change my mind. I want to a great
deal on it though. The dealership has had it on their lot for 4 1/2 months and
are above market value and I want to make an offer on the car if I like the
test drive,so I want to know what a fantastic price for the car would be so I
know how to approach them - especially since I want to go with money in
hand for a cash offer.

SO MANY THINGS YOU'RE DOING WRONG HERE... Don't let nostalgia run your decision making. That Thunderbird isn't a very good car anyway, and it's worse at 22 years old... A car that's been on a used car dealer lot isn't going to sell, ever, unless you get near the asking price... Never tell a dealer you're paying cash. Tell them you're open to financing and mention cash at the last minute. That way, you'll get the best price possible, and the dealer might not even sell the car to you for cash.

Always buy with your head, not your heart. If this is going to be a project car or just a car to have for fun, low ball them. It's been on their lot for a while. Probably for a reason. Maybe it's overpriced or has something wrong with it that may show up on the test drive. Check out the vehicle history report. Maybe it has a jaded past filled with an accident or two, branded title, or God knows what all else. But always keep in the back of your mind something my Mother used to say "You can never go home again." Jim
