Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Situation:
I am currently a college student and I am planning to graduate in 2019. My car  engine
has just failed.  Well from what a mechanic quick look at the car, my head gasket is broke
as well as my water pump, oils contaminated and it overheats.

I would like some advice on what would be the best option for me to take?  Should I
purchase a used engine? or Should I purchase a car?
I do not know much about engine swaps, so I coming here for more knowledge about it.

Maybe get it repaired if the rest of the car is in good mechanical condition.

It all depends on your finances. If you drive very little and you have 2 years to go a cheap used car might meet your needs. A car with a few dents in it can be dirt cheap but still have low miles and be in good mechanical shape.

Your looking at around $2500 to $3700 depending on the engine that is in there, for are remanufactured engine, plus labor cost.
