Replacing firewall voltage regulator

Asked by SlothGirl13 Mar 16, 2024 at 08:09 AM about the 1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

The voltage regulator went out on our 77 cutlass supreme. I am having a hard
time finding a replacement. Most places only carry the voltage regulators that
go onto the alternator. Any suggestions to where I could purchase one that
goes on the firewall. TYIA

EBay has a lot of them, even NOS units. Odd the parts stores don't have any. There are two choices, you can go with the old winding type that is adjustable or with a newer solid state unit, they both attach to the firewall.

By 1977 GM was using voltage regulators integrated inside of the alternator. Are you sure you're looking at the voltage regulator? Please post a picture of what you're seeing. Thanks, Jim

There are car parts restorers who can be found by goggling this. Most who I used to use are no longer in business, but some are still around. You could also have yours rebuilt, which is how I'd go.
