Where's the noise coming from?

Asked by Roderick Aug 14, 2023 at 01:41 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2001 chevy cavalier makes a squeeling noise and leaks
fluid ONLY when a/c is turned on. Everything if fine when
the a/c is off.

Most likely the serpentine belt/tensioner are bad.

What kind of fluid? Engine coolant? Brake fluid? Window washer fluid? Gasoline? A running AC won't cause any fluids to dissipate, only refrigerant in gas form. The AC compressor puts a load on the belt, so it might be engine fluid coming out a worn out water pump.

Or the air conditioning compressor could be worn out and sticking. The fluid could be normal condensation from the air conditioner evaporator. Hope that helps! Jim
