Is my car getting ready to have the transmission go out?

Asked by BeaterChevy Jul 27, 2023 at 12:37 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After getting the power steering fluid return line replaced, the gear shift seems
to have moved 'down'. The car acts like it's in park when in Reverse, Reverse in
Neutral, Neutral in Drive, and Drive while set to third, ect. The car is an
automatic. I'm wondering if we can reset it, or if the car is preparing to give out
on us.

would examine the transmission mounts for looseness/out of position.

Sounds like someone messed something up when the line was replaced, I would take it back and complain.

Check your shift cable at the transmission. There is an adjustment there.
