Hello, I believe the 22-RE was the standard engine on the 1983 Celica (the "E" got added to the 22-R to signify the new, fuel-injected engines). The only other engine available was the 2S-G 2.0L. This engine was carburated, so it might make the changeout a little tougher. Best of luck! CarGrrl

I HAVE A 83 TOYOTA GT COUPE I HAVE A 22RE IN IT RIGHT NOW IT WAS A LITTLE SNAPPIER THAN THE STOCK ENGINE. I'VE GONE THREW TWO ENGINES AND I HAVE REBUILT BOTH (22RE'S) AND STILL RUN THE 22RE IN MY COUPE TODAY, AND THE OTHER IS TAGED AND BAGED. 1MONSTER IN INDIANA!!
