When shopping for a car how do I know if the car had water damage? Is it ok to buy a car that was in a flood?

I'm shopping for a used for my son in NJ and PA.

Ask for a carfax. If one has been in a flood all the electrical components have been under water. You could see problems in a week ,month, or a year. Eventually everything that was under water will have to be replaced.
