Salvage title reported on CG but not on CARFAX
Ford f150 vin 1FTFW1E85NFA31133 shows a clean
CarFax when checked on dealer website. But on CG
they list a warning for salvage title (based on Auto
Check). Truck looks great but has been on CG well
over 250 days. Can a salvage title be hidden on
CarFax but not on AutoCheck?

Yes, those vehicle history reports are only as good as the information they receive. If the insurance company only reported the salvage designation to AutoCheck but not Carfax it won't show up on the Carfax report. These reports are an excellent guide, but don't always show everything. There's no requirement to report to Carfax or any other reporting company. Check the title and, if you can, run the VIN through NCIB. It's a free search on their (NCIB) website. Hope that helps! Jim
I just ran the VIN you posted through NICB and nothing showed up. No theft or total loss records. Jim
all those dumb-ass reports are cash cows for the companies, but are only as reliable as the unreliable people who actually do the reporting. Never rely on Carfax or anything like it. for the consumer, it's a waste of money and could cause you to get a really bad car. A lot of these FORD trucks are salvage or Lemon buybacks due to the miserable engines that were in them. But a more reliable brand, like Toyota, Honda, or even Chevrolet.
