How do I install my stereo without factory plugs?

Asked by Dylan Nov 19, 2020 at 01:04 AM about the 1997 Lincoln Continental

Question type: General

So a few months ago I got my 1997 lincoln
continental and the owner had cut the factory
plugs off of the stereo and no longer has the
manuel. I'm left with a bunch of wires I have no
idea what they mean. Should any one of you
guys maybe have a color coding thing for me so
I know how to properly wire my stereo?

You have to find a factory wiring diagram. The people at Crutchfield may be able to help. If you have the stock radio the wiring diagram may be on it.

Get the proper adapter from www.crutchfield. Do NOT hack into the existing wiring.

I gotcha. I couldn't find a wiring diagram and I've tried many different combinations and have been unsuccessful. Would providing the model of the factory stereo be of use?

Sorry, I wasn't paying attention when I read your post. Get a wiring diagram from Ford for the car part of the audio system and also Google a wiring diagram for your stereo and connect them together. Do NOT just hook wires together randomly as you may burn something expensive out. If you like, call Lanterman Motors in Pratt, Kansas and ask for Bob. I am the parts manager there and I can get and email you a wiring diagram. Your local Ford dealership can do the same and it should be free.

hey Bob I tried calling but it keeps saying the line is busy. is there anyway you could email me on here? I've tried the wire combos on the other pic the guy posted but it seems like my car is weird with that stuff. Would a pic of the wires be helpful at all?

I have searched and none of those wiring diagrams match up with my car. Do you guys have any solution for this?
