why my 06 saturn ion transaxle slips in foward gears?

while driving I came to a stop,when I steped on the gas,the engine reved up but car wouldn't move forward,reverse works but not the forward gears,I drained the fluid and pulled the filter out,fluid is dark and smelly but no sign of ground metal is seen

any clutch material in the fluid? Usually if its burnt and smelly you probably have burnt up some clutches.

fluid is just dirty, I looked inside the filter,I didnt find any chunks

clutch material is pretty fine usually, there wouldnt be chunks. sounds like the transmission needs to overhauled. or taken somewhere and make sure its nothing electronic causing the issue.
