1998 Saab 900SE turbo 2L conv. lid motor is clicking / makes 1 fold...lucky to get it back down .

Asked by mblhollis Jun 08, 2015 at 06:09 PM about the 1998 Saab 900 2 Dr SE Turbo Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have owned my Saab since 2007 ...never any problems with raising or lowering lid til yesterday..clicking from right rear. Unable to go up more than first fold over window then lucky to get back down but w/o locking. Auto shop on HHI looked at it today & pronounced need for a new right rear lid motor for  $1100-1400 + labor w/o even getting to the motor. I've had a lot of puzzling electrical issues with this car that Saab or our local tech in Ma could resolve ( unable to locate a trained Saab tech on HHI, SC). I hate to buy a used motor if something else might be a simpler fix...car has 177K
miles & gets 30mpg hwy. Luv my Saab.

H&H Auto on the island says they will have to remove the back seat & part of the trunk to get to the motor. I will ask them to simply check the relays. Can those parts be easily obtained ? They only took the car to the back, started it & tried the lid before declaring it to need a new motor...looking for a complicated expensive fix for me Are the motor drive relays at the rear motor itself or in a more easily accessible area?
