I thought the 1998 Boxster had a cable operated hood latch mechanism from the panel by the drivers door sill? If you have the later electronically operated mechanism, you can plug a 12V backup battery into the cigarette lighter, or connect jump leads from a good battery to the connector in the fuse box by the drivers left foot or even to the charging point on the right side of the engine. Finally, if none of those work, pull out the wheel liner for the front passenger wheel well and up by the back of the headlight is an emergency cable operated mechanism. There are literally hundreds of solutions to this problem all over the web, check rennlist, renntech, pelican or any other Porsche website for a detailed DIY
