I have a 99; Carrera, 6 speed. I can't push it out of the garage - seems to be locked even though it is in neutral. Thought battery was dead, but, checked it out and is OK.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Trying to get car out of garage.  Can't move it - it appears locked up even though it is in
neutral.  Thought battery was dead and that had something to do with it.  However,
battery checked out good.

Tom, does it start now that the battery has checked out OK? I kind of think with Tom, that the brakes have rusted up, particularly if it sat for a long time. If the car starts, try rocking it back and forth, you know 1st to reverse and back. If it doesn't start, your neutral safety switch may be the cause of a no-start situation. Also try depressing the clutch a few dozen times to free things up. Good Luck

Yes - I agree with Smitty22 and Tom. Does the car start? Neutral safety switch for not starting and rusted rotors for not moving. If the car "drove into" the garage OK chances are the switch is alright. I used to have a '69 912 that sat for many years. When I finally got around to working on the car, all four rotors were rusted to the brake pads. The car was in the corner of my garage and I had to drag it out! All the wheels had to be removed and the rotors taken apart and resurfaced (turned). In order for this to happen the car must be sitting for some time or perhaps the car was wet when you put it away? Good luck!
