95 ford escort LX automatic won't crank.

Car was cranking fine, would sputter when
stopped at stop sign or red light, cut off a
couple times, but would crank right up.
Drove it all day on tuesday then went to get
in it that night and nothing. Won't crank,
won't turn over, no click no nothing. I hooked
up a battery charger to it and it said the
battery was fine, but when turning the key
the car would then make weird noices, then
stop. So hooked up to a battery charger the
dash lights works, not hooked up there are
absolutely no lights on at all! Could this just
be a bad battery or is it something more
complex!?! please help!
