1991 Firebird V8 5.0 ECM location and does it need to be flashed?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, so I had a short somewhere and basically it ended up frying my
computer on my 1991 firebird. I was trying to figure out where the ECM is
located, and if I can just slap another one in there and be good to go? I know
newer cars have to be flashed over and what-not; but I'm not certain if my car
does; due to the age? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The ECM is located behind the knee panel of the dash on the passenger side. I hope you have fixed the "short" that caused the demise of the first unit before you plug in a new one. As for the "plug and play" question, I am not sure but I think you will be good to go with an ECM that matches your car's original. I also have 91 and so far I have not had an ECM issue to deal with so I have no direct knowledge. The seller should know if the "chip" in the ECM is for your engine and fuel system at a minimum since there were several options available for that year.
