Expected front wheel hub temperature at normal operating conditions?

Asked by DougHeath Mar 03, 2017 at 03:46 PM about the 1995 Ford Bronco XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

New bearings and seal.  New spindle nut conversion kit and Warn manual lockers to replace autos. Torqued first nut to 50 ft# and backed off 90 degrees, added washer with hole placed over nut tit, torqued second nut to 150 ft#.  Installed new locking hubs and checked for engagement and disengagement.

Any heat you would feel would be from the brake pads, stopping the vehicle. If anything, just warm to the touch on the bearings. The rotors would be a little bit warmer if you had done a lot of braking.

New brake shoes were also installed. However, I am not sure this would show on the exterior hub. Infrared gun shows both hubs at 95 F after a 5 mile test run.
