My '94 Sunbird 2.0L is leaking coolant from firewall (from an elbow below A/C lines). Did a hose connect here? Any ideas?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Went to a mechanic for a safety and emissions check last week. He passed
the car, but informed me that I needed a new radiator. I told him "I would
think about it". However, as I was driving away my car immediately
overheated. This is not typical and is quite a mysterious coincidence. I am
now loosing gallons of coolant, not from the radiator, but from what
appears to be an elbow joint just below where the A/C lines enter the
firewall. I see the two coolant lines going to the heater core and this isn't
one of them. I don't see any disconnected hoses, and I wouldn't be able to
tell if anything is missing.

Any ideas? Does anyone know what this elbow joint is for, or what (if
anything) it connects to?

usually it is the heater core hoses that run thru the firewall into the car behind the dash. Could be mid to difficult getting the heater core out to replace it.
