1998 Pontiac Sunfire loses coolant though temp gauge indicates middle temp, no leak is evident.

I continue losing significant amounts of coolant even though I cannot see any
leakage and car runs good and cool-temp gauge in middle range.

Keep feeding it coolant until you can get in and determine just what needs to be fixed. Have a reputable shop do the diagnosis and give you an estimate because you may find it to be better to get a new vehicle if this one has minimal sentimental value to you. Repair could be around $2000.
