2001 over heat

2001 sunfire 2.2 coolant full no air in system fan works over heating running and idle how do i check thermostat with out removal

Start car cold with radiator cap open. Allow to warm up, may take a few minutes and watch.. if you see coolant begin to flow in to radiator the thermostat is opening ..if it begins to heat up with no flow thermostat is not opening
