2001 Pontiac firebird oil pressure drop

I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my oil
pressure dropped to zero on my 2001 Pontiac Firebird
does anyone know what might cause that

First, immediately check your oil level and insure you have the proper fill. If not, add oil before doing any other testing. If it indicated you have sufficient oil, your gauge my have failed or lost a connection or your oil pump is failing. The gauge is not significant but the oil pump is and you should not run the car before getting it repaired.
