I have a 2001 SSEi and the trans shifts hard. I had the epc solenoid replaced, no fix. Changed the fluid,no fix. Any ideas on what to do next?

I think the trans may be getting to hot and going into a survival mode. No external sign of this, no codes and the fluid is not showing any signs of slipage.
