Bad pulley or bad serpentine belt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was Driving home yesterday and i lost
power in my car. At first it didnt wont to
start but i turned it again applied some
acceleration and it stayed on. I didn't drive it
for awhile. I started the car and this time it
came right on no problem. But while i was
driving i heard a sharp squeal sound. I
thought of my pulley but then my belt
popped off. But the car kept running. I get
out the car and check . .. Yes the belt is off.
So now do i just replace the belt or did the
pulleys cause  the belt to break?

Belt tension-er & idler pulley + belt will take care of this...Serpentine belt slipping can not drive the alternator how it should to keep battery charged.

Agree. Easy to change both and it should fix your problem. Not worth changing the belt and then have a bad tensioner potentially damage it.
