Without a trouble code it could be anything. Do the lights dim when you turn to 'start'? You might have a glitch in the PassLock security system, or a bad ignition harness connector... could be anything. With these cars, even a loose battery connection or temporary loss of ground can cause the PassLock system to engage. If you see a yellow blinking light on the dash when you turn to 'start', that's what's happened. If you can get someone to pull the trouble code that will help to diagnose what's going on. If it's the PassLock - you will probably have to get the car to a GM dealer. There are some tricks around it but I believe the car has to be running to bypass the security system.
