TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH STUCK ON
So my car was reading code P0742 saying
my clutch converter was in the stuck on
position and after that my car would only rev
up in drive and wouldn't move in 1st gear but
would move in 2nd and 3rd and Reverse only
so do I need a new torque converter itself in
the picture below or just the torque
converter clutch to fix my problem cause I
start up my car and I can smell the
transmission fluid smells like a burnt smell.
But if you could help me figure out what to
do I'd really appreciate it.
The converter clutch is controlled by the TCM via a solenoid and those solenoids stick, so that was your intial problem, but now it sounds like you have some slipping bands or the internal drums clutch pack is severely worn causing the fluid to burn, this really sounds like a transmission overhaul will need to be done to correct the problems.

Not much too explain, today's transmissions are computer controlled, those computers cycle relays that cause gears to change, torque converter to lock and unlock, these solenoids get sticky usually from lack of service and when they start to act up need attention right away or it starts damaging the internal linings and friction discs inside the transmission and that starts the transmission to slip and that burns the fluid.
