Gas Gage goes from E to Full and back down again

I can't tell if I have a full tank of gas or going on E... the gas gage keeps going up and down when I drive. what is the problem and can I fix it myself?

This instrument is special in that it is supposed to have regulated power to it...unfortunately your battery is TOO old to supply reliable power and the ground connection has been "welded" from repeated starts...causing a brown out condition....so not only do you have an unreliable power source also an insufficient one at that~.....get a New battery...clean the black 1/0 cable connection to the frame with a coarse wirebrush~....and you're good to go~

i have aztek ran outta gas put gas in all of sudden started sounding and acting funny ive took it to afew repair shops one says its a plate in the head the other say engine module the other saied i need awhole new engine cause theres no pressure in the back of engine someone please help!!! i dont know what to do 4 Answers

my sister drove it till it almost ran outta gas it stalled out at the gas station put gas in started acting funny before all that it was running good no problems at all no sounds at all.

I have a 2002 Pontiac aztek and ive checked the fuses and even the fuse under the hood my rear hatch will not open by key or by button I cant get to my lights in the back if they need to be fixed im not sure what to do when you do push the button or try to turn latch you can hear it trying to work is there a manually way to by pass this thanks 8 Answers
