How do I repair my gas gauge in a 2004 pontiac sunfire

Asked by denisetrotta1 Apr 17, 2017 at 11:21 AM about the 2004 Pontiac Sunfire Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed out the sensor after dropping the gas tank and the part I removed
was new from last owner so thats not the problem. Do you know what other
options I have. The gas needle is a tad above the E.

The cluster Gage consisting of the gas, odometer, an tachometer are each operated separately by indivdual stepper motors. Chances are, the stepper motor for the gas gage, is bad. My solution, to you, would be to change out the entire cluster Gage. You can find this part cheep on ebay or maybe your local salvage yard.I should mention they do sell these stepper motors, but one needs to be proficient at desoldiering an resoldiering these components. Good Luck.
