Fill the car when the light first comes on and subtract that amount from the total tank capacity and you will know how much gas is left in the tank. Multiply that number by the gas mileage you get and you will know the range until you run out of gas.

FoR is Right. Good suggestion. Most cars the light comes on with 2 gallons in tank, not positive about you car but it will be somewhere around there. And a word of caution, if you make a habit of that you will burn up fuel pump. The gas is the coolant for the pump and if run often not submerged will get hot. Never to the point of hot enough to be a danger of fire, but certainly hard on pump. It holds 18 gallons

i too think going down to 4 four gallons in the tank or lower is bad for the fuel pump. it will overwork and fail sooner.
