gear shift problems

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When parking in drive way in my 2006 Pontiac Montana, I thought I had shifted to park while foot on brake, when took foot off brake started to go backward...engine still on at the time...I was in reverse.  I tried to put it in park and gear shift wouldn't move up anymore and would not move into neutral or drive either.  So I turned off the engine...now I can't turn on the van and I can't get it into park either.  What broke and what do I do?

You need to have a mechanic look at "what broke" to come up with an answer...perhaps it's covered under your USED car warranty....if they gave you one~
