Alternator

My car has a battery icon on the dashboard i
bought a new battery and the icon is still there so I
thought the junkyard gave me a bull**** battery so I
bought a newer one from Walmart. It started up fine
then I began to drive and it shut off. A man who
works on my car says it's the alternator is it?

Good possibility. Your dash light is telling you that the battery is discharging instead of charging. A defective alternator will cause this. Take the car to a shop and have them test your charging system. Most will do it for free and will diagnose the problem.
