My brake light is staying on. What can and should I do to shut it off?
All of a sudden the brake light is staying on and there's no problem driving but the light
stays on and doesn't turn off.
you should look at the brake light switch---out of adjustment or cracked switch---if a barrel type simply adust this one around until the light goes off~ if a leaf type switch would simply replace that one~ shows both here----if the round one simply turn the nut until the brake lights go off...if one of these plastic "reed" switches replace that one~
Have you tried lifting the brake pedal by hand and see if the light goes off then. Could be just a lazy or worn return spring.
if its the brake lights on the rear of the car that stay on it could be the brake light switch.on this car it could also be a bad connection at the bcm.
good one tennisshoes...the BRAKE light comes on with low level...only a matter of time till complete brake failure if this be the case~
Think there is an issue with this.............system needs to be reset
i have a 2006 Pontiac G6 base model, but with the 3.5 v6 with 115,00 miles on it. when my brake fluid level is low the third brake light stays on. if i fill the fluid level to normal, the light problem is fixed. this happens, for me nearly every 3 months.now what causes this in the first place?...i do not know neither does my mechanic.

There was a recall for this in 2015, I had mine fixed prior to it becoming an issue. However, I had it a month ago, paid a mechanic to replace the switch, only for the problem to reoccur today. Frustrating. GM will no longer support it if you've had it "fixed" under the recall. I'm going to look into replacing the BCM.
Take the body control computer off rub some dielectric grease on the connections . There is a YouTube video describing whole process. $2 and it's fixed.
How would the dielectric grease actually fix it? Are we sure that it's not just the connection issue and we're just reestablishing The connection by unplugging it and plugging it back in? I seen the video you are talking about yes and many people reported it corrected the issue I'm just wondering if it's not just a connection?
