Alero Loud While Driving
I have an 02 Oldsmobile Alero V4 engine with
161,000 miles.Had the car 10 months now with no
issues at all & Ive put brand new tires on the car in
July 2016 when I bought it & I get the oil changed
every 3 months. About 3 weeks ago I got my oil
changed at Walmart & now my car is very loud
when I accelerate & decelerate. Best I can describe
the sound is its like a jet or airplane. Car starts &
drives fine no shaking or jerking its just really loud.
When I take off its almost as if my car sounds like
its stuck in a gear & its trying to get out of it but my
car is an automatic not standard shift. Can you tell
me what's wrong?
The problem is in the exhaust, could be a plugged catalytic converter. Just go to an exhaust shop to have it checked out.
Thanks for the response! I let my dad drive the car the other day & he said it sounded like its coming from the tires. He raised my car up with a jack & said he found no exhaust leaks (muffler, & catalytic converter are good). I let my cousin listen to it & he said possibly bad wheel bearings. Im too scared to drive the car not knowing what it is cause I live in the country 35 miles from the city to a shop. I'm a female & have my baby in the car when driving & I'd hate to be stranded with him in there. My dad & cousin aren't mechanics & gave 2 different answers so I decided to post here!! If you'd like to hear the sound I made a video of it.
The video is on YouTube. https://youtu.be/kdjbFPAoA8U
The sound is in sync with the rotation of the wheels. The sound is too loud for car tires. It is possible front wheel bearings, easy enough to check, just jack the car up and pull on the wheels back and forth from top to bottom to see if there is any play in the wheel. Also after driving it, if the wheel bearings were bad there would be a lot of heat coming out from the wheels.
OK thanks a bunch!! Now that you said "Also after driving it, if the wheel bearings were bad there would be a lot of heat coming out from the wheels" I do recall my dad saying that after he drove the car & parked, 3 wheels were cold but 1 wheel was heated... I'll have the bearings checked thank you so much!!
