Toyota RAV 4 2020 battery problems:
I have a battery problem with my Toyota Rav 4 in 2020, and this is the second time happened to me. My battery died on January 27, 2020 in the morning after sitting in my garage for 2 days and I had to call Toyota road assistance to jump start my car, and the second occurred on 05/04/2020 after fifteen hours of sitting my garage the battery died again and I have to call in Toyota's roadside assistance again to jump start my car again. I called the Toyota service center in Lakeland Florida & she told me that there was nothing they could do because once the car run again, there would be no more failure codes.

There are over 20 people with the same problem on this website alone. Me included. Most have RAV4 Hybrids. If it happens again, you should insist they tow it to the dealer without jump starting it, because your service department wants to see it broken. The truth is they know there is a problem. It's too pervasive for them not too. Toyota has to come up with a fix.

My Rav4 Hybrid , bought Jan 2020, had a dead battery 3 months after buying car.....took it to Toyota after having it jump started, Toyota service didn't find anything wrong with first diagnostic test, then Health test failed, so they gave me a new battery. Then it went dead again 3 months later (end of July)....so I had it jumped, and will go back to Toyota....not happy with all the time lost because of this new car.

I had a similar problem. Took delivery of RAV4 XLE in late May, and we have less than 700 miles on it. Tried to start the vehicle to make a Dr. appt, but it was was completely dead. At that time, the viewed the posts herein. My sales contact came out to our house, jumped the RAV and drove the vehicle back to his service department. The battery had charged in the drive back, and the cause was a parasitic drain on the battery. With all of the electronics on new vehicles, there is a continuous drain on the battery. The service department identified the culprit, updated the "firmware" and eliminated the problem. I really like this vehicle, and that the sales person took such initiative to solve our problem prompted me to share this experience.

Can you share what your service said caused the drain on the battery...what culprit they identified and what updates they did on the firmware? You have a great sales contact and service dept!! I can't thank you enough for answering

Here is the corrective action from the service ticket that was created: "130mA parasitic draw on battery. Battery tested good. Monitor draw with Picoscope 2 hours. Check DCM firmware update. Disconnect battery 30 minutes. Recheck draw 18mA." Hope this helps.

I have 2500 miles on a new 2020 RAV 4 Limited. Yesterday I experienced a similar problem. The electronics turned on including Home display panel but car would not start. It just clicked indicating dead battery. After a few attempts, the Home display went out and driver display showed key fob malfunction. After a jump from Toyota Roadside, I let car run at idle for thirty minutes and drove it to dealership. They asked me a series of question required by Toyota indicating that they knew about the issue. I left car, they recharged a very low battery and I picked up car. Further info: Car was driven on a 30 mile highway trip 24 hrs earlier and sat in driveway. Toyota advisor said leaving car on for 30 minutes at idle would not allow alternator to charge battery, it needed to be driven. This issue leaves me with little confidence in leaving car unused for a few days and then driving to a local store and back home, etc. Toyota needs to aggressively research and fix this issue. I asked if electronic signals and messages sent to the cloud and my phone telling me where car was parked, vehicle status etc could be turned off. Signals constantly sent to cloud if no cell service could drain battery. I was told that these features could not be turned off. Get your act together Toyota! This must me also happening on Highlanders etc.

We have had our 2020 Rav 4 for 6 months and the car has died twice. Had to jump it to get it going. Sounds to me like there should be a recall issued. also have an issue with the sun roof closing. Very disappointed so fa.r

2020 RAV4 hybrid owner. Dead battery issue. Found T-SB-0095-20 dated September 30, 2020: DCM Reset and Firmware Update (LG) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nU21MIxjotxZjpERv7QsJ1rVKtHE27JG/edit? userstoinvite=%22%22 Had car towed to dealership even though jump start by tow driver worked. Did not trust to not happen again. Sent copy of bulletin to dealer with tow. Service advisor said newer service bulletin just arrived. So we will see if works. From what I can tell from other posts, not all dealers stay updated for updates. Hope this helps

My 2018 Rav4 had the same problems. Battery would be dead. Dealership blamed me for not driving it enough. The key fob talks to the car all night and this drains the battery. Then they would test the battery and it failed so I got a new battery under warranty for free. Next year same story and again I got a new battery under warranty. In Feb, 2021 it happened again but this time I bought an Interstate battery from another company. No problem since.
