AUTOMATIC, HARD SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR
I just bought a 1994 NA automatic with only 67,000 miles. Love the car. It runs great but it shifts a little hard from first to second gear. I have read its not the tranny but I need to loosen the throttle cable ?? Thanks guys ....Roger
My 91 does as well. The previous owner had the trans rebuilt with a shift kit. It's possable that yours was rebuilt & the shift points changed or has a aftermarket kit in it...

If the car shifted fine before you parked it (stored it), if you had good clutch pedal pressure too, then chances are it's not a hydraulic problem vs "A Frozen Clutch Disc to Flywheel" issue. First off "I Warn U Against Trying To Shift Any Manual Tranny Into Gear(s)" when it's resisting the attempt! You could destroy ur Tranny in a mico-second. The way to find out if the Clutch disc is Frozen to a Flywheel is simple & quick, simply use a stick to push the clutch pedal to the floor (assuming you have clutch pedal pressure) then Shift tranny into any gear. Then simply try pushing the car, If it rolls then the problems inside your tranny. If it won't roll it's a "FROZEN CLUTCH DISC"! If it's a Frozen Clutch Disc issue I've freed them up very quickly by: 1. Get in car and shift car in 1st gear. 2. Have a friend hook a tow strap to the car. 3. Hold Clutch pedal to floor. 4. Instuct your friend to start towing you, "Tow Speed Is Not To Exceed" the selected gear. Example: Can't tow car beyond the speed range for 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd, 4th,5th! You'll know when the Clutch Free's Itself From Flywheel, the turning sound of the engine will stop and the car will speed up all the sudden. Good luck.
