Won't respond to Drive

Asked by Jan 09, 2017 at 07:32 AM about the 1995 Nissan Sentra XE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car will turn on with no problem. I've taking care
of it as much as I can but lately I've been getting
this problem were my car doesn't respond to drive
correctly. I have a automatic transmission. To make
the car run I have to obviously wait for it to heat up
and then instead of putting it in drive I have to put it
in second and once the car is going around 40mph I
can switch it up to drive no problem. I can even
make a complete stop at a red light or a stop sign
and the car will run perfectly. The issue comes back
either when I turn it of or put it in reverse. Any idea
what could it be?

Either the transaxle fluid is low or it's time for a rebuild. When was the last time the fluid was changed?
