1996 maxima loud heated noise

Asked by renob0214 Feb 10, 2014 at 08:20 PM about the 1996 Nissan Maxima SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1996 maxima makes a really loud
clanky noise when the heater is on.  It is not
constant and does not change with the fan
speed.  It does feel like something else is
kicking on when the noise occurs, it just
feels like the engine is working harder, then
it let's up and the noise goes away.  Repeat
over and over.

Nope. All settings. Also seems worse when car is cold. It gets better, but not totally gone, by the time I get to work.

Pull the blower motor out (heater motor) and see if something is stuck in it.
