usually if a car is low on freon, the clutch will not engage. Check the PSI of the low-side AC pressure line. Somewhere there should be a sticker on your hood indicating factory PSI pressure. Use a ac recharge kit and refill if needed.

you may be at the cusp of having enough freon... it may cut out again but hey, if its not broke, don't fix it : )
