98 Nissan Sentra: Cranks but won't start
The motor cranks when I try to start it. I did some tests, and things I figured
The battery is good. I put a new one in and it similarly works fine, holds a
charge and everything.
The battery voltage drops like a rock when I try to start the vehicle; From
14-ish volts to about 10-11 volts.
The fuses are fine, I checked them all.
The car makes a noise like it's about to start, and feels like it's almost
there, but never quite makes it.
The alternator was replaced 3 years ago. The ignition was replaced 3
months ago. The battery is also brand new. Not sure what else it could be;
The person who was helping me is suggesting it could be the starter motor,
but I don't know. It might be an unrelated issue (doubtful) but before this,
I'd had a couple of isolated instances of the engine shutting down randomly
while I was idling or slowing down at a stoplight. The electronics would blip
and then come back on instantly, but I'd have to turn the key again to start
it back up. It hadn't had the issue for at least a week before it stopped
Any help would be greatly appreciated; If I could get an idea of what the
problem is, I can get an idea of how much it's going to cost me to get fixed.
