Nissan Altima throws code P 505

Asked by debbieram Jan 14, 2014 at 10:43 PM about the 1998 Nissan Altima GXE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

98 Altima had total engine rebuilt. Head was warped, machined smoothed, runs  great.
Now engine light on, throws code P 505 and needs Ca. smog cert. Tech said it  will be
about $400.00. He let me know he isn't sure that it will fix problem. My question is
does 98 Altima need to complete a specific drive cycle for the  computer to reset/ re-
learn after rebuilt or do I just keep replacing sensors and parts. Most sensors, all
gaskets were replaced when engine was done.
