Xterra won't start

Long story, ran out of gas in my 2000 xterra the
other day got some gas and put it in and didn't
start had to get more gas because of the angle
truck was on and continued trying and burnt out
my starter. Ca me back next day and by the grace
of God it started on first crank (starter was starting
to engage and then slipping) kept it running and it
went fine, parked at home and shut off and starter
wouldn't crank(pretty sure not battery) changed
starter yesterday and now it cranks and cranks but
won't start. Not sure if it's due to rain
