Trying to get my 97 sho Taurus to run better

I recently bought a 1997 sho Taurus just to find out
that it runs 16's on the quarter mile @ 89mph, while
I heard and have seen them run 15,5/15,7 easy at
almost 95 mph stock. So I'm wondering if others
know about/have experienced this aswhell and
know a solution

I had about 3/4 of a tank of just basic fuel in the tank than I toped it up with race fuel before I ran it I'm not sure the octane levels of the race gas but it was high
