Trying to get my 97 sho Taurus to run better

Asked by Jun 08, 2017 at 10:38 AM about the 1997 Ford Taurus SHO

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought a 1997 sho Taurus just to find out
that it runs 16's on the quarter mile @ 89mph, while
I heard and have seen them run 15,5/15,7 easy at
almost 95 mph stock. So I'm wondering if others
know about/have experienced this aswhell and
know a solution

What kind of fuel are you running? You need to run gasoline not this crud they say is fuel today, if you can't find any real gas then try running some StaBil Marine n the fuel. My son bought one these new and when the fuel got switched he had real problems with performance, until he found real gasoline and when he couldn't get any he added the StaBil, it didn't perform as well on StaBil but he said it was a lot better than just pump fuel.

I had about 3/4 of a tank of just basic fuel in the tank than I toped it up with race fuel before I ran it I'm not sure the octane levels of the race gas but it was high

The mix was not enough to change the basic fuel enough to notice too much extra out of it. Also if your going to run race fuel in it you may want and need to lower the engines coolant temps by replacing the thermostat to say a 180 degrees and you will also need a reprogrammer to take advantage of the extra punch the fuel has to offer.
