Ignition switch stuck.

Asked by Traci May 04, 2018 at 06:40 PM about the 2000 Nissan Altima GLE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is there anything type of security release button on
a 2000 Nissa Altima? My ignition switch is locked
and we have tried everything. When we googled it,
we were told it was a security feature to prevent
the car from being stolen. The gear switch is even
locked. Do you know anything else before I replace
the ignition switch? The part was kinda expensive
and it's electric, so if I put it on and that's not the
problem then I'm stuck with it..

My friend who works in the service department of the local Nissan dealership gave me this method two weeks ago, it worked for a neighbor. Insert the key in the cylinder, turn it to the on position but don't start the car, then count to 5, turn key back to the off position and pull out the key for 5 seconds. Repeat the procedure for a total of 3 times and the system should reset. I hope it works for you too.
