A loud clinking upon heavy acceleration then stopped something fell out of the engine now it won't start

So I have this Nissan Xterra 2001, I know it's not on
a rod knock because I've been checking the oil and
it has oil but it's making it sound like it could be a
rod knock although it sounds more like it's coming
from a fan like a fan pulley or something... but I
was driving it down the road the other night and it
got louder and louder, I was going about 55 miles
an hour and it just fell out of the engine whatever it
was... and ever since then it will not turn over, I had
to push it off to the side of the road arghh! what
could this problem be?
