Alternator or battery

I have a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder.  The battery
died while I was driving. I replaced the
battery, now the battery light only goes off if
I am pressing the gas pedal. Is that the
alternator or something else

sounds like low ALT output, most any parts store will test you charging system free, so would start there , make sure all your belts are adjusted, and not slipping that is sometimes a cause?
